Second Amendment: School Shootings

      After researching the Second Amendment regarding gun laws and connecting it to my choice of looking into school shootings, it is clear there are very many mixed opinions on the cause. Some think that the ability to get access to guns is too loosely restricted and should be immensely increased, while many others think that the primary reason is mental health issues of the shooters. The second amendment allows for people to be armed in order to defend themselves if necessary but there have always been laws regarding prohibition of firearms in places such as schools and the qualifications necessary to purchase weapons. Larger scale school shootings have been becoming more common while at the same time the percentage of households in America that have guns in them has been decreasing since 1978 (51% to 36%). 4 Little Girls Documentary

    As I was not able to attend the trip to Birmingham with the class, I recently watched the movie 4 Little Girls , a documentary   from 1997 following specific events regarding to the civil rights movement in Birmingham, Alabama in 1963. As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. came to Birmingham to help aid in the civil rights movement locally. People began to gather at a 16th Street Baptist Church in order to build their plan and eventually led to being broadcasted across the country even including the demonstrations of police brutality. As the movement continued, The church was bombed by the Ku Klux Klan and four little girls were killed. This spread rapidly throughout America and brought forth the support needed, as the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was then finally passed by the United States Congress and justice was brought upon the person responsible for leading the vicious act of the Klan. Topic- The uprising of circuses and amusement parks durning an important urbanization period in America As leisure time was immensely growing in the rapid urbanizing environment in America from 1870-1920, people could spend more time doing activities that were enjoyable and entertaining. Circuses and amusement parks were tremendous innovations in the idea of outdoor amusement and entertainment. With them, there was always the connection to the urban city and establishments located there as amusement parks gained popularity. Coney Island became a big hit in New York in the 1870's as a whole new idea for fun that was so interesting to all people.
