4 Little Girls Documentary
As I was not able to attend the trip to Birmingham with the class, I recently watched the movie 4 Little Girls, a documentary from 1997 following specific events regarding to the civil rights movement in Birmingham, Alabama in 1963. As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. came to Birmingham to help aid in the civil rights movement locally. People began to gather at a 16th Street Baptist Church in order to build their plan and eventually led to being broadcasted across the country even including the demonstrations of police brutality. As the movement continued, The church was bombed by the Ku Klux Klan and four little girls were killed. This spread rapidly throughout America and brought forth the support needed, as the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was then finally passed by the United States Congress and justice was brought upon the person responsible for leading the vicious act of the Klan. This film was very interesting and showed me so much about this movement I hadn't known before. I was unaware of how exactly this movement came to an end before this and it is sad and upsetting what had to happen to make everyone else realize the problem. Four innocent little girls died in the process of helping to make a difference for everyone like them have a better life moving forward. I enjoyed getting to learn more about this subject and seeing how much important history in our country happened so close to where we live.
